Luggage Review:
Garment Bags Review: wheel garment bags and
rolling garment bags
I
have always been a “pack and fold”, kind of guy.
Sometimes I skip the fold part all together. If
you not a big fan of garment bags you understand
how I feel. However, my sister is the corporate
type and travels with wools suits and black tie
dresses and she “needs” a garment bag. She has
some really nice ones too, even a Briggs and
Riley leather garment bag. So recently she took
me on a “how to buy a garment bag” tour and this
is what I learned….
Rolling garment bags and wheeled garment bags
are the latest thing. And yes it surprised me
too that those “folding garment” bags really do
not wrinkle your clothes. There are several key
ingredients:
Buy a garment bag with a fully lined interior;
most linings are water resistant which an added
plus is. The lining is the critical component
that keeps your clothes from wrinkling. Also
most of the rolling garment bag or wheeled
garment bags have padded hold down straps keep
you from getting packing lines on your clothes
Get a garment bag with a removable extension
panels for long garments like “black tie
dresses”. Being a man I personally do not where
dresses but I am sure my wife will love this
feature. My sister likes a garment bag with
multiple interior pockets that hold the jewelry
that matches the dresses – another plus for the
wife. The most important part is the hanger
clamps. When you buy a garment bag think “big”
hanger clamps. A good size is around 3 inches.
You hanging bag should include hanging hooks so
you can unfold the garment bag when you get to
the hotel and hang it up in the closet. As I
said my sister owns a wide variety of these from
leather garment bags and discount garment bags
but her favorite (today) is the TravelPro
Platinum 4 wheeled garment bag. I will let you
know when this changes.
