There are five critical components to a
laptop case and none of the laptop cases I
tested have all five design elements. If you can
recommend one email me at to_loulou@yahoo.com
Padding:
You laptop case needs to cushion your laptop
against unexpected blows. Strange things happen
on plane flights and your laptop can get bounced
around a bit. Make sure laptop case has a
minimum of 8mm EVA foam protecting your laptop
from shock.
Exterior:
Equally as important as the padding is the
exterior construction. Don’t settle for
composite board or cardboard. Many good laptop
cases are reinforced with thick ridged
corrugated plastics. Do your home work on this
one. Also make sure your laptop case is covered
in ballistic nylon that is treated for water
resistance. No one wants the “moisture monster”
to get to their hard drive.
Hot Lap:
Padding and exterior construction server
specific purposes but work together to prevent
something call “hot lap”. That mid plane flight
feeling that your hard drive has suddenly turned
into a hot nuclear core that has gone critical
and the china syndrome is now boring a hole
through you lap top case on moving on to your
thighs.
Ventilation:
Laptop construction materials reduce the feeling
of “hot lap” but only proper
ventilation can prevent it. Laptops ventilate
from the back. Therefore it is important that
the spine of your laptop case provide proper
ventilation options. These same ventilation
options also allow you to hook to your mouse or
other peripherals. But remember the back flap is
to help your laptop stay cool not connected.
Shoulder Straps and Handles:
Get a laptop case with great connectivity. No…
not to the internet, from your laptop case to
the laptop strap. Nothing is worse than broken
cheap plastic D-Rings. Make sure your laptop
case can be carried by the handle and by a
shoulder strap. Both elements of your laptop
case should utilize bungee technology that will
save wear and tear on your shoulders and joints.
