Security Friendly Carry On Luggage:

If you travel frequently then chances are you have almost missed a flight due to security checks. Help yourself and your fellow passengers avoid the hassles of travel by becoming "security friendly".

Sharp Objects: Including ordinary items like a metal nail file or thread scissors.

Club-Like Items: This includes Nurf baseball bats, fishing rods or anything that could be misconstrued as useful for an assault.

All Explosives: Including firecrackers or certain cigarette lighters

Incendiaries: Including hairsprays and aerosol deodorants.

Disabling Chemicals and Other Dangerous Items: like key chain mace or household cleaners.

What's New:

The Transportation Security Administration and private industry are partnering to develop a  Registered Traveler Program to provide quick airport security screening for passengers and luggage for individuals who volunteer biometric and biographic to TSA industry vendors People screened will be assigned a threat assessment value. Those with a low risk value can pass through security quickly and easily with just biometric identification.

Just a thought? If you can obtain a pilots license, like the 9/11 highjackers did,  you will likely have a low risk value? Humm, I am not sure this makes us any safer .

There is more to being a security friendly passenger than just what you do or don't pack in your luggage. If you choose to pack banned items expect to go through a more extensive luggage and body search and do not expect to make your flight.

More Tips:

1. Arrive at the Airport 1 hour before your schedule departure time. During peak holiday seasons or during Airline strikes plan to be at the airport 2 to 3 hours before take off.

2. Have a valid, up-to-date, state issue photo ID. You will be search for an out of date drivers license.

3. Do not over pack your carry on luggage. If the security person opens your carry on luggage and all the content fall out due to over packing they will not repack your luggage for you. They may ask you to weigh your luggage to make sure it is within the size and weight restrictions.

4. Take off your shoes while you are waiting in line. Wear slip on shoes.

5.Take off your jacket in line and take everything out of your pockets.

6. Remove metal items like belts

7. Don't wear and underwire bra

8. Have film and camera out ready for hand inspections.

9. Do not say or do anything suspicious. This is not the time to be a controversial activist. It is poor form to scare the people who have to fly with you.

10. Do not make phone calls outside the US while waiting at the airport.
